Enviroment Pollution - Details
Event date: 22.02.2012 06:06:23
Country: United States
State: State of Virginia
Location: Mineral [North Anna Nuclear Power Plant] - Dominion Virginia Power has found elevated levels of a weak form of radioactivity in a sampling well at its North Anna nuclear power station. The radiation poses no hazard to the public, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said. On Friday, the Richmond-based utility was notified by its laboratory contractor that water taken from an on-site groundwater sampling point contained an unusually high level of tritium — more than twice the EPA’s standard for drinking water.

Country: United Kingdom
State: Scotland
Location:- [Dounreay Nuclear Plant] - Experts believe they may have found the most radioactive particle to be recovered so far from a beach near the Dounreay nuclear plant in Caithness. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has been informed of the discovery at Sandside. Initial tests suggest it contained between one a two million becquerels (Bq) of radiation – at least twice as “hot” as a particle found in 2007.

Event date: 22.02.2012 03:52:40
Country: OTH
State: Pacific Ocean
Location:- [About 400 miles of Fukushima NPP] - Radioactive contamination from the Fukushima power plant disaster has been detected as far as almost 400 miles off Japan in the Pacific Ocean, with water showing readings of up to 1,000 times more than prior levels, scientists reported Tuesday. But those results for the substance cesium-137 are far below the levels that are generally considered harmful, either to marine animals or people who eat seafood, said Ken Buesseler of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts.

Event date: 15.02.2012 04:11:05
Country: Japan
State: Prefecture of Fukushima
Location:- [Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant] - Description – Thermometer readings at the bottom of the No. 2 reactor at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant rose further to exceed 90′ C for the first time since it attained a cold shutdown in December2011. The readings had reached a new high of 93.7 C…….Kyodo quoted a Tokyo Electric Power Co. statement, added that it was likely that the thermometer was malfunctioning because the temperature had fluctuated between 75 C and 90 C within a short time, while readings from two other thermometers also at the bottom of the reactor vessel have remained around 35 C. ”The device’s movements are perplexing.
