28 uR and higher is a possible alert warning! — Typical background radiation levels for most of the USA are in the 5 to 28 uR/hr range. Readings can be higher for brief periods of time due to normal variations in radiation levels. They can also be consistently higher for areas at high elevations such as Colorado, or with larger natural deposits of uranium, thorium, radon, etc.

Location:- [About 375 miles from Fukushima] - Radioactive cesium believed to have been released during the crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in Japan following last year’s major earthquake has been found in plankton about 600 kilometers (nearly 375 miles) east of the facility. The amount of cesium detected in the plankton was far below the government’s provisional limit of 500 becquerels per kilogram for marine products. However, follow-up studies will be necessary because the radioactive cesium is likely to have accumulated in fish that eat plankton.
